Whether it is the whole garden or just part of the garden, privacy is important so if you are creating a small city garden, try to form an area that is screened by walls, fences, shrubs, climbing plants or trees.

  • High walls on 3 sides which ideally should be left in their rough, as found, state
  • If walls are rendered, cover them in trellises and climbing plants
  • Silent pool with fish and plants
  • Large umbrella
  • Pergola – think about painting it in a colour such as green or blue
  • Brick edged sunken pool

  • Grasses, palms and bamboos in containers
  • Sweetly scented climbers. such as Grapevine, Passionflower, Jasmine and Honeysuckle
  • Lavender and herbs
  • Iris
  • Bamboo in container No roses or thorns!

Maintenance and Care

At the begining and end of each growing season, sweep up dead leaves, clean out pond and remove debris.

Check stain or paint to shed, shelter or pergola.
