Mediterranean Garden

A Mediterranean  garden is a mixture of different styles that evoke memories of holidays in the sun.

They are heavily influenced by Moroccan, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish gardens.

There should be lots of terracotta, courtyards and flat rendered walls painted in white, blue or orange with dry climate plants.

Guide Size

Good size is a 6 m x 15m yard or enclosed garden

Typical Features

• High walls at sides – rendered and painted flat white or in blue or orange ochre
  Walls could be topped with copings of clay pan tiles but remember these could be venerable to frost.
• Raised pond made from decorative brick or tile
• Glazed tiled patios
• Lots of terracotta pots including some hung on walls
• Spanish pools
• Rocks and rock gardens
• White pots and paint an option
• Good quality designer furniture (i.e. – not deck chairs or fold up chairs)
• Brightly painted doors
• Tile picture
• Mulch of crunched stone or pebbles

Typical Plants

• Easy care plants such as yuccas, palms, grasses and  bamboos
• Brightly coloured pot plants such as pelargonium

Maintenance and Care

These gardens need to be kept clean – clean up dead leaves, remove damp mould and renew paintwork as soon as it is looking faded.

Develop your garden by collecting pottery and tiles and add up lighters and a small discreet barbecue for evening entertaining.
